The Best Of Two Days In Coimbra

The whole of Europe is beautiful, but some of the European countries are wonderful and magnificent and one of them is Coimbra. When my friends told me it is an awesome place to go on holiday with family, I decided to go alone to explore the place. My stay in the city was short but detailed. So, here is my experience in this city and what I liked most. This will help you in planning your trip to Coimbra as well.

First of all, do take your family with you; it is fantastic for the family holiday. During my travel to the city, I missed my family a lot.

The first and most impressive part of this city is its architect. The wonderful structures of houses, long empty green fields, snow, mountains, and rivers all make every corner of the city a picturesque one. So, if you are simply taking a walk in nooks and crannies of Coimbra, you will lose yourself in the city beauty.

The first spot that I went in Coimbra is the oldest University of the city as well as in the whole of Europe.  It is Rua Da Sofia. Climb the top of the university to see the bell that signals the start and end of class. Moreover, you will get a panoramic view of the city, which is stunning. This university was built in XIII century.

There are several monuments in the city, you should give a visit to, but some important are:

  • The Old Cathedral, the Portuguese Romanesque buildings, one of the finest.
  • Portugal dos Pequenitos.
  • Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha.
  • Quinta das Lágrimas garden.

These places are fantastic and must-visit spots. So, do include them in your list, and do not forget to taste the Santa Clara pastries in the City Centre before leaving the city.
