Hiroshima: Exploring the Historical City

Hiroshima is the home to some of the warmest people of the country. I was definitely not going to miss out in the first city in history to be ravaged by an atomic bomb on my trip to Japan. A visit to the city made me realize that is more than this. Hence, it is a worthy visit. Here are a few attractions that will interest you when you visit Hiroshima.

The Peace Memorial

This is also known as the Atomic Bomb Dome. This is the symbol associated with Hiroshima. It has been declared as the World Heritage Site. It tells so much about the history of the time. I came to learn that the only structure that was standing after the attack was the Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. There is a park that surrounds this site. This attraction should be on top of your list.

Miyajima Island

This is my favorite among the lot. It is a small island and at a close distance from Hiroshima. I took a ferry to reach the island. The view was spectacular. It is intensely rural and it has a small population. The maple trees on the island create a beautiful view. The primary feature of the island is the large Torri gate which serves as the reminder that the island hosts, the heritage site, Itsukushima Shrine.

Try Okonomiyaki

If you are a foodie like me then you should definitely try out the most popular dish of the city okonomiyaki. It is actually a savory pancake that tastes delicious. The pancake contains different types of ingredients. They work together to give the dish a unique taste. You can get everything in it, cabbage, pork, squid, sauces, egg, and noodles. There are different places in this city that serves this delectable dish.
